Single Rider Lines at Disney World

The free line almost nobody uses. Ride alone, fill the empty seat, and skip most of the wait at no cost. Here is every Disney World ride that offers it, with the standby line you would be skipping right now.

A single rider line is the simplest free trick at Disney World, and the most overlooked. At a handful of rides, Disney runs a separate line for people willing to ride alone, slotting you into the odd empty seats that groups leave behind. You give up sitting with your party and you skip most of the queue. It costs nothing, which is what makes it worth knowing. Below is the live picture. The standby wait on each ride is pulled in real time, so you can see exactly what single rider is saving you at this moment.

Historically one of the fastest single rider lines on property. The entrance hides near the gift shop, so ask a cast member if you cannot find it.

Solo riders are almost always assigned the Engineer role in the back, so you trade the Pilot seat for a much shorter wait.

Reborn as a Muppets coaster in 2026, and whether single rider sticks on the new version is not yet confirmed. Watch the live status before you count on it.

Standby waits update through the day. Single rider times are an estimate, since the line is unposted. Treat roughly a third of standby as a guide, not a promise.

How a single rider line actually works

You walk up to the ride, find the Single Rider sign near the standby and Lightning Lane entrances, and tell the cast member you are riding solo. They send you down a shorter queue and then slot you into whatever seat opens up, often a vehicle with an odd number of empty spots. You will not sit with anyone you came with, and you usually skip the themed pre-shows and interactive bits along the way.

Some entrances are easy to miss. Expedition Everest's single rider line hides over by the gift shop, for instance, so if you do not see a sign, just ask. Single rider often runs even when it is not advertised, and the My Disney Experience app now shows it when it is active.

When it is worth it, and when it is not

Single rider shines on the big, high-capacity thrill rides where odd seats open up constantly. At Expedition Everest, Test Track, and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, it can turn an hour into a few minutes. It is the smart way to stretch a park day, because it is free.

It is not magic, though. When lots of people are using single rider, or when the standby line is already short, the solo line can be just as slow or slower, which is exactly why the live board above matters. Glance at the standby wait before you commit. And because single rider and Lightning Lane are one or the other on any given ride, the best plan is to ride single rider where it exists and save your paid Lightning Lane picks for the rides that have no solo line.

Single rider versus Rider Switch

These two get mixed up constantly, and they solve completely different problems. Single rider is about speed for people riding alone. Rider Switch, sometimes called Rider Swap, is the tool for families with a child who is too small or too nervous to ride.

Here is how Rider Switch works in 2026. Bring your whole group to the entrance and find a cast member before you get in line. They issue a digital Rider Switch pass to your My Disney Experience account. One adult rides while the other waits with the child, and when the first group comes back, the second adult redeems the pass and rides through the Lightning Lane without waiting the full line again. Up to two people can ride on the pass, so if only one parent is in the second group, they can bring an older sibling along for the re-ride.

A note for Disneyland fans

If you have done single rider at Disneyland, Disney World will feel thin. California offers it on far more attractions, from Indiana Jones Adventure and Matterhorn Bobsleds to Radiator Springs Racers and WEB SLINGERS. Walt Disney World keeps it to a short list, which is all the more reason to know exactly which rides have it. Deciding between the coasts? Our Disney World vs Disneyland guide breaks down the rest.

Frequently asked questions

Does Magic Kingdom have any single rider lines?

No permanent ones. At Walt Disney World, single rider lines are found at EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom. Space Mountain has been spotted testing single rider, but it is not a regular offering.

Does Test Track have single rider after the refurbishment?

Yes. Test Track reopened in July 2025 in its new version and brought the single rider line back. Because the car-design segment was removed, single riders no longer miss that part of the experience.

Does the new Muppets Rock 'n' Roller Coaster have single rider?

It is unconfirmed. The single rider sign came down during the 2026 retheme and new signage has been reported, but Disney has not confirmed it as a regular offering. The ride has also had recent downtime, so check the My Disney Experience app on the day.

Does Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run have single rider?

Yes, at Hollywood Studios. The catch is that solo riders are almost always given the Engineer role in the back row rather than a Pilot seat up front.

Is the single rider line free?

Yes. Single rider costs nothing. It is not a paid product like Lightning Lane, it just fills the empty odd seats that other lines leave behind.

Is single rider always faster than the regular line?

Not always. It is usually faster, often roughly a third of the standby wait, but it can be the same or slower when a lot of people are using it or when the standby line is already short. Glance at the posted standby time first.

Can my young child use single rider?

No. Riders must be at least 7 years old to use a single rider line, and still meet the height requirement. Because you are split up and seated with strangers, it is not suited to young children, who should ride with their group. Rider Switch is the tool for families with a little one.

What is the difference between single rider and Rider Switch?

Single rider fills lone empty seats quickly and splits up your party, and the rider must be 7 or older. Rider Switch lets two adults take turns riding while one waits with a child who is too small or unwilling, and the second adult skips the long line the second time. Single rider is the solo speed tool, Rider Switch is the family tool.

How many people can ride on a Rider Switch pass?

Up to two. If only one adult is in the second group, they can usually bring one person from the first group along to ride again.

Can I use single rider and Lightning Lane on the same ride?

No, it is one or the other per ride. A smart move is to use single rider on the rides that offer it and save your paid Lightning Lane picks for the rides that do not.
