VelociCoaster Down Most of the Weekend, Oct. 24 and 25, 2026

Jurassic World VelociCoaster at Universal's Islands of Adventure was down for most of the weekend, 13 hours and 22 minutes across Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24 and 25, 2026. On Sunday it never ran at any point in RDN's ride data. A guest reported it down since about 8 AM ET, during the Early Park Admission hour when Universal hotel guests can ride before the 9 AM public opening, and it was already down when RDN's data picked up at 9:59 AM, staying down until 6:21 PM ET.

Sunday, never seen running

Islands of Adventure was open 9 AM to 8 PM on Sunday, according to RDN's Islands of Adventure hours for October. Guests were inside before that. Universal's Early Park Admission page lets hotel guests and other select groups in up to one hour before opening, and from Oct. 5 through Nov. 30, 2026, VelociCoaster is one of the five Islands of Adventure attractions included. On Sunday that early hour began at 8 AM Eastern.

Guests reported trouble starting in that hour. One guest reported VelociCoaster delayed at 8:50 AM, still inside the early entry hour, and another later said it had been down since about 8 AM. RDN's data first picked up the coaster at 9:59 AM, and it was already down then, so 9:59 AM is when RDN's record starts, not when the ride stopped. RDN cannot confirm the exact time it went down.

RDN's outage record runs from there to 6:21 PM ET, 502 minutes, or 8 hours and 22 minutes. That is at least three quarters of the park's 11-hour day. RDN did not log VelociCoaster running at any point on Sunday, before or after the outage record closed at 6:21 PM, with the park open until 8 PM.

RDN found no public explanation from Universal for either outage.

  1. Sat morningRunning, with peak posted waits of 35 to 40 minutes, then 65 by midday.
  2. Sat 1:55 PMGoes down.
  3. Sat 6:55 PMBack after 5 hours. The posted wait reached 100 minutes in the 7 PM hour.
  4. Sun 8 AM, early entryEarly Park Admission opens to hotel guests. One guest reported VelociCoaster delayed at 8:50 AM, and another said it was down since about 8 AM, before the 9 AM public opening.
  5. Sun 9:59 AMAlready down when RDN's data picked it up.
  6. Sun 6:21 PMOutage record ends after 8 hours and 22 minutes. RDN never logged the ride running Sunday.

Saturday, a 5-hour afternoon outage

The trouble started a day earlier. On Saturday, Oct. 24, VelociCoaster ran through the morning, with peak posted waits of 35 to 40 minutes, rising to 65 minutes by midday. It went down at 1:55 PM ET and stayed down until 6:55 PM, exactly 300 minutes.

When it came back, the line came back too. The posted wait hit 100 minutes in the 7 PM hour, the highest of the day, with the park closing at 8 PM.

How unusual this weekend was

VelociCoaster goes down often, but usually not for long. In RDN's ride reliability rankings, the coaster was available 84% of the time and carries a Frequently down grade. Over its last 86 operating days it logged 173 outages, about two per operating day, and the average outage lasted 53 minutes, per RDN's reliability data file.

Saturday's outage ran about 5.7 times that average. Sunday's ran about 9.5 times it, and together the two came to 802 minutes, more than 15 average outages back to back.

And 173 outages is more than any other ride at Islands of Adventure in RDN's data. The next closest, Pteranodon Flyers, had 130.

  • Jurassic World VelociCoaster173
  • Pteranodon Flyers130
  • Flight of the Hippogriff128
  • Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure122
  • The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride119
  • Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls101
  • The Incredible Hulk Coaster81
  • Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges81

What it means for your trip

A visitor who arrived Sunday could not ride VelociCoaster at any time RDN saw. On Saturday, anyone who wanted to ride after 1:55 PM had to wait until 6:55 PM for it to reopen, and the posted wait then reached 100 minutes in the 7 PM hour.

Solo riders may feel an outage more than they used to. The coaster had closed its single rider line by early December 2025, and a team member said it "probably" won't come back, WDW News Today reported, adding that guests "will have to use either the standby queue or Universal Express pass instead." On Oct. 22, 2026, Inside the Magic reported that the old single rider line is reportedly now used for front row requests, a change it said Universal has not confirmed as permanent. If that holds on your visit, a party of one has no single rider shortcut when the ride reopens after a long outage.

If VelociCoaster is a must, ride it in the first hour of your first Islands of Adventure day, during early entry if you are staying at a Universal hotel, and keep a second day or a later slot as a backup. With about two outages per operating day, a short stop is common, and this weekend showed a long one can take most of a day.

What happens next

Islands of Adventure opens at 9 AM today, Monday, Oct. 26, and closes at 6 PM, per RDN's hours calendar, with early entry for eligible guests from 8 AM. That is two hours earlier than the weekend's 8 PM closes, so another long outage would leave even less time to ride. RDN will update this story if Universal explains the outages or if VelociCoaster goes down for long again.
