What is the 48 inch companion rule?

Universal draws a second line at 48 inches. A child who clears a ride's minimum but is still under 48 inches rides only with a supervising companion who is 14 or older. That covers 32 of the 41 attractions here, from Spider-Man and Mario Kart to the Seuss carousel. On the post above those rides turn to a dashed gold outline until your child reaches 48 inches.

One ride has a ceiling instead. Pteranodon Flyers is for riders 36 to 56 inches, and a guest over 56 inches rides only alongside a child in that range.

Which inch opens the most rides at Universal?

Forty inches opens the most, across all three parks. The thrill rides then climb in steps to 54.

Before you get in line

  1. Try the test seat first. Outside rides like Hagrid's, VelociCoaster, the Hulk, Gringotts and every Epic Universe ride with a minimum height, a test seat shows whether the restraint fits before you wait.
  2. Pack light for the big coasters. Loose articles are not allowed on most rides. Stardust Racers, VelociCoaster and the Hulk add a metal detector, so phones and keys go in a locker.
  3. Use Child Swap. One adult waits with your child in a family room, then you switch without lining up twice.
